The locality of 2 Mai, only a few years ago a mere village, has lately become a much sought place by tourists despite the poor conditions in the area. 2 Mai is located between Vama Veche (6km) to the south and the city of Mangalia (5 km) to the north. 2 Mai and Limanu villages can only be reached by road, Mangalia being the last train station on the coastline. From Mangalia railway station or anywhere in Mangalia, tourists can take a bus which will take them in about 5-7 minutes to Limanu. To go to Limanu, you have to turn right after crossing the bridge over Mangalia Lake; to go to 2 Mai you have to continue straight ahead on the national road. During summer these buses run nonstop including the night, every 15 minutes approximately. For many years known as a quiet place where the Bucharest bohemians were taking refuge looking for moments of quiet and discreet accommodation at the lowest prices on the coast, the village has experienced an unexpected success among young people who were attracted by nonconformist atmosphere and reduced rates for accommodation and meals. In 2 Mai the beach is often occupied by those who install tents here, sometimes spending long periods of time in the summer season. Here, as in the entire Romanian coast, appeared dozens of villas, some of them belonging to well-known public figures. Recreational possibilities are relatively low in the area; there are here only a few restaurants and bars, most of the tourists preferring to spend the evening in Mangalia or in other southern coastal resorts, except, of course, those who have fun in the traditional style of the area, spending time  in the courtyard, close to the barbecue.

The 2 Mai beach is bordered to the north of the South Pier of the commercial port of Mangalia and a little unarranged portion which communicates with the beach in Vama Veche. It is a beach with an acceptable level of facilities, not recommended for demanding tourists.

2 Mai can only provide accommodation in villas and houses; there are no hotels in the area. It is also one of the aspects that gave the area a characteristic charm. Most of the tourists are camping in tents that are placed anywhere in the area, including locals’ courtyards, who have found such a way to earn some money without invest anything. Due to the fact that here almost all homes are rented, with not too much comfort difference, in principle we can make a simple standardization; in this webpage we present only some representative accommodation options that can help you make a realistic image.
